OPEN-FACED SLOPPY JOES
I don’t think there is anything quite like good ole Sloppy Joes. I just love them. It is a meal that is so much a part of my childhood. And I like to have a little fun making different versions of the traditional Sloppy Joe. This one has a BBQ twist and my family goes crazy for them! This is a quick little recipe that is perfect for a weeknight meal. The garlic Texas Toast really adds such great flavor and texture! If you’re a huge Texas Toast fan, be sure to check out my Chicken Parmesan Pizzas recipe. That one uses garlic Texas toast as a base too and is SO good!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
If you want more BBQ flavor, then cut the amount of ketchup in half and add in more BBQ sauce.
Try adding some onions and diced green peppers to the sloppy joe mixture. Add some heat by adding some chopped jalapeños.
Of course. You can use any meat for this: ground turkey, ground chicken or even a plant based meat substitute.
Absolutely! Just brown the ground beef and drain excess grease and add the Manwich sauce then serve over the baked Texas Toast. You will not add any of the other ingredients unless you want to add the shredded cheddar cheese on top.
If possible, store the meat mixture and any leftover toast separately or the toast will get soggy. The meat mixture should be in an airtight container and should be kept in the fridge up to 4 days. This mixture can be frozen up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight before reheating.
I would suggest reheating the meat mixture on the stovetop. Add a splash of water if too thick. Reheat the toast in the oven instead of the microwave.
