Preheat the oven to 180°C (thermostat 6).
Peel the apples, remove the seeds and cut them into thin slices. Sprinkle with lemon juice to prevent them from browning.
In a previously buttered cake tin, arrange the apple slices evenly until they cover the bottom of the tin. Reserve.
In a salad bowl, beat the eggs with the sugar and vanilla sugar until the mixture is white and frothy.
Add the milk and melted butter, then mix well.
Add the flour, baking powder and pinch of salt. Mix until the mixture is smooth and homogeneous.
Pour the mixture over the apples in the pan, making sure to cover them completely.
Bake the cake for about 30-35 minutes, or until it is golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Leave to cool slightly before carefully turning the cake out onto a serving plate.
This upside-down apple cake is a comforting treat, perfect to accompany a coffee or tea break. Enjoy!
