Variations and Substitutes
Fruit – Use strawberries, mixed berries, kiwi, pineapple, mango, and more. Just add fresh or frozen fruit to the mixture. You can do 1/3-1/2 cups of fruit to alter the flavor a bit with the orange juice.
Concentrates – Lemonade or limeade concentrates can be used in replace of orange juice concentrate to completely transform the flavor!
Dairy – If you need dairy-free milk go right ahead. Almond, soy, coconut, oats, and more all work for this recipe.
Sweetener – So if you want to swap out the sugar you can use any type of sugar-free sweetener, honey, or even maple syrup. Feel free to change up the sweet factor.
Extract – So I used vanilla extract, but you can use a splash of mint, or orange extract for a twist. Or even muddle a mint leaf or two and stir in.
Protein Powder or Collagen – Whip this up for breakfast and add your favorite protein vanilla powder or even a scoop of collagen and enjoy!
Alcohol – Add in some rum or even vodka for an adult version of an orange Julius!
Storing Leftovers
If you do not drink all your Julius simply store it in the freezer. It will harden up, so if you go to drink it you need to let it sit at room temperature for 5-10 minutes. Then you can add a little bit of milk and re-blend it up for a creamy sippable drink again.
You will want to only freeze it for 1-2 days. It is best to drink this fresh, but it can be saved for sure.
Pro Tips for Making
Quality Orange Juice
Make sure that you use quality orange juice for this recipe. It is the stand-out flavor and you will find it will alter the flavor tremendously depending on the brand.
High Powered Blender
I do recommend a high-speed blender for this drink recipe. It will blend the ice perfectly and create that ultra-smooth texture for a perfect sippable drink. If your blender isn’t strong enough you will have ice chunks when you go to sip.
Serve Immediately
After you get your drink whipped up pour into glasses and serve it up. This is the best frothy and creamy texture. You will find the layers of ingredients separate after a bit and the ice melts and waters down the flavor.
