Place one layer of the cooled cake on a cake board or plate.
Spread a thick layer of chocolate frosting on top.
Place the second cake layer on top and frost the entire cake, smoothing the sides and top with a spatula.
Decorate with chocolate shavings, sprinkles, or fresh fruit if desired.
